Work it, Richmond is a new digital solution for small business in Central Virginia. We make life easier for you and your work force by aggregating news and information relevant to your businesses. We’re part news, part education with a dash of inspiration and fun. We’re interested in what you’d like to see here. E-mail us at content@workitrichmond.com.
Like any small business, Work it, Richmond has a dedicated team of folks who make it go. We work hard, and some of us play hard, too. Meet the folks behind Work it, Richmond.
JACOB GEIGER (Boy Wonder)
Jacob is the chief writer for Work it, Richmond. He’s such a Boy Scout. Literally (he’s an Eagle Scout). Jacob arrived in Richmond one year ago and helped get PolitiFactVirginia.com off the ground. That’s another new website in Richmond you should check out. Jacob attended Washington and Lee University and majored in European History (go figure) and Journalism. He has worked for SNL Financial, The Virginian-Pilot and The Daily Progress (Charlottesville), among others. When not covering Richmond’s small business community, you’ll find him exploring the great outdoors with his longtime wife (1 year), Keri.

NICOLE McMULLIN (The Brain)
Nicole steers digital growth and innovation, and so Work it, Richmond has her fingerprints all over it. And just so you know, those fingerprints have not coincided with any sought by law enforcement. So far. Nicole has a great blend of content and technical skills, which is one reason why Editor & Publisher recently named her one of the top 25 under 35 folks transforming the media business. She’s a West Virginia gal (insert joke here), and she’s got a beautiful daughter, Sophia. If you ever need the answer to a Harry Potter or Star Trek trivia question, Nicole’s your gal.

MATT ROSENBERG (Newbie)
Matt specializes in all things digital and has a track record of creating websites and blogs in the blink of an eye. He’s a photojournalist who accidentally learned HTML, PHP and CSS, so in addition to sharing the heavy load of coding and creating a site, we also let him out of the building to shoot photos from time to time. Matt was at The Daily Progress in Charlottesville before coming to Richmond this year, and he’s still trying to figure out where the West End begins. (P.S.: Aren’t we all?) He can be found exploring Richmond’s roads and restaurants on his motorcycle and posting photos of his dogs, Liza and Star, to Facebook. Woof.

PAUL BEYER (Loudmouth)
Right now, Paul is creating pages for the Work It, Richmond website; writing CSS; working on the email newsletter; making sure the advertisements get where they are going and listening to Lamb of God. We’re pretty sure he listens to Lamb of God, or some other metal band, all day. He’s a digital producer who took on the large task of creating the Work It, Richmond website, putting to good use his background in web development, online advertising and knowledge of e-mail newsletters. He’s a New Yorker who’s been in Virginia for a while but is still searching for the perfect (or at least edible) bagel and pizza pie. He has a new girlfriend, and thanks to her he’s recently started kayaking and is learning how to clean the house (which he finds delightful).

DAVID BRADSHAW (Renaissance Man)
David is the head of sales for Work it, Richmond. If you want to put a message in front of thousands of small businesses in Richmond, David’s your guy. David’s into music in a big, big way. He plays piano, guitar and bass. And, oh, does he love him some blues and jazz. David is a Richmond native, but recently returned here from Alabama. So he’s enjoying the mild summers of RVA again. When not on the street selling, David spends his time raising his lad, Wyatt.

RICK THORNTON (Elder statesman)
Rick is a VP with Richmond Media Group. He assembled the team that created Work it, Richmond. OK, he begged and then guilted everyone into helping. Rick has a content background, having worked as a reporter and editor for many years before moving into administration. He’s somewhat competitive, so he got an MBA just so he had the same number of framed diplomas at home as his wife. Rick likes to travel – as in he has a 9-year-old son who plays travel soccer and travel baseball. He’s about the only one involved with Work it, Richmond who can recall life before Twitter.

DEB ALLEN (Czar of Creativity)
For starters, this native New Yorker was born in her Ithaca College dorm. Turns out the dorm was a repurposed hospital! Once that story was printed in The Ithaca Journal (and picked up by national outlets), the notoriety gave Deb an early lesson as to the power of journalism. Years later, she wound up working in the art department at that newspaper. Then (lucky us) she was transplanted to Virginia. She earned an SIY degree (Southern Improved Yankee) during her stretch as GM of The Reston Times. By the time she settled in Richmond, Deb had three awesome kids (the "baby" just graduated from Tech, by the way – no more tuition!), an interior design business and a training job at the Virginia Press Association. She held a number of leadership roles at the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Now she's up to her eyeballs in innovation projects. She says, Work it, Richmond is her favorite.
